Selling Your Home In Northeast Michigan

Selling your home in Northeast Michigan can be an emotional time. Target Real Estate of Tawas has a proven track record helping families during this time, such as finding them a new home and helping them get ready to get their current home ready to be sold.

While working with a Team Target member we will often use the term "home" when you purchase Real Estate. Target members will also use the term "house" when selling your property. This reason is when buying real estate it is an emotional time, but when selling property the home owner need's to remove the emotion for the situation.

Being a home seller you need to think of your house as a marketable commodity, your goal is to let others view your "house" as their possible "home". If you cannot disconnect your self in this manner you could inadvertently cause a situation where your property could be listed longer than you thought.

Step 1:

Disassociate Yourself With Your Home.

  • Say to yourself "This is not my home, it is a house, a product to be sold.
  • Make a mental decision to "let go" of your emotions and focus on the fact that soon this house will belong to someone else.
  • Picture yourself handing the keys over to the new owners.
  • Don't look backwards, look toward the future.
Step 2:

De-Personalize.

Pack up those personal photographs and family heirlooms. You want the buyers to imagine their own photos on the walls, and they will have a hard time doing that if yours are still there.

Step 3:

De-Clutter

People collect an amazing quantity of things over the years.

  • If you don't need it, why not donate it or throw it away?
  • Pack up knickknacks
  • Clean the kitchen counters
  • Think of this process as a head start on the packing you will eventually need to do anyway.
Step 4:

Make Minor Repairs

  • Replace worn or cracked floor tiles.
  • Patch any holes in the walls
  • Fix leaky faucets.
  • Fix doors and drawers that don't close properly.
  • Replace burned out light bulbs
Step 5:

Make the house shine.

  • Wash the windows inside and out
  • Clean out all those cobwebs
  • Wax the floors
  • Re-caulk tubs, showers and the sinks
  • Replace worn rugs
  • Clean out the fridge
